Marilyn Wightman started doing art as a young girl and hasn’t stopped since. Throughout the years she has done oils, and colored pencil but the one constant is pastels. Having moved to New Mexico in 2010 from Ohio she has transitioned from portraits and still-lives to the inspiring landscape she finds here. She does much of her work plein air and her studio work is often inspired by plein air studies. The neutral colors of the southwest landscape are intertwined to reflect the peace and delight she finds in her new home. Marilyn’s desire to plein air paint has taken her traveling to Cannon Beach, Oregon and the Rocky Mountain National Park for further inspiration.
Marilyn received an art education degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH and has taken a variety of workshops and classes to extend her knowledge of pastel painting. She has studied with Richard McKinley, Lorenzo Chavez, Sally Strand, Kim Lordier, Terri Ford, Elizabeth Mowry and other well-known pastel painters.
Marilyn lives in Santa Fe and is represented by Tresa Vorenberg Goldsmiths. She also is a regular participant in the annual Eldorado Studio Tour.
