The Exhibition

The Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum Foundation invites you to participate in the International Balloon Museum Inaugural Art Exhibition. This is a juried show and sale of original two dimensional art completed by the artist in their studio or en plein air. Juried artists will be featured in a gallery located inside the International Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum receiving gallery representation from October 2020 though January 2021. They will also compete for cash and merchandise prizes. Artists juried into the exhibition will receive an international audience and the opportunity to sell their artwork through the gallery and online representation. 

 

The Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization dedicated to raise funds, foster public recognition and promote membership for the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. Artists from around the world will bring awareness to the joy, adventure, inspiration and community of the ballooning culture by creating art that allows the spirit of imagination and adventure to soar.

Eligibility
  • All artists working in two-dimensional media, excluding photography, digital art, and multimedia. Accepted media is limited to oil media (traditional and water-mixable), wet media (acrylic, watercolor, and gouache), and dry media (pastel, pencil, and charcoal works done on paper). Works produced on any substrate which has been pre-printed with an image is strictly forbidden.

  • All art must include or depict an image of a hot air balloon.

  • Only original artworks are eligible for entry. All work shall be deemed as appropriate for public viewing.

  • All entry fees must be paid by September 25, 2020 and are non-refundable. 

Entry Requirements
and Fees
  •  Artists may submit 1- 4 images for jury selection, with a maximum of 3 artworks selected for exhibition. Art work that has been created en plein air will qualify to compete for special awards. Each plein air work must be completed 80% en plein air. Entry fee is $30 for 1-3 images and $15 for an additional image.

  • All artwork must be original (completely conceived and executed by the artist). Works must not violate copyright laws. The artist retains copyright to his/her image(s). However, by submitting to this show, the artist agrees to the Balloon Museum Foundation’s use of the images for publicity (including future promotion) and archival purposes.

  • Work done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible for entry.

  • Each artwork entered must be within size specifications. The minimum size per piece is 80 square inches unframed (8”x10”). Maximum size per piece is 320 square inches unframed (16”x20”). Works smaller or larger will be withdrawn from jury consideration and shall not be replaced with another entry.

  • Artwork must be available for sale in the gallery with a minimum retail price of $500. Work priced lower than $500 will be withdrawn from jury consideration and shall not be replaced with another entry.

Exhibition Requirements

Please read these exhibition requirements carefully and follow them exactly.
Any artist violating these requirements may be disqualified, and any award will be forfeited.

  • After the application closing date of September 25, 2020, no changes for submissions will be allowed, including the artist’s name, artwork title, size, price, or image.

  • Exhibiting artists must  provide 2 copies of a one-page biography with artwork delivery. 

  • Delivered works must have a professional presentation, be suitably framed, and be ready to hang with D-rings and wire. No saw-tooth hangers will be accepted. Gallery-wrapped canvases with finished edges are appropriate for oil or acrylic paintings and will be accepted for exhibition.

  • The image submitted and approved by the Entry Jurors must exactly match the respective delivered artwork. Any artist delivering a substitute for the original artwork approved by the Jurors will be disqualified from exhibiting all his/her paintings in the current international exhibition and the following two international exhibitions.

  • Any artist withdrawing one or more paintings after acceptance into the exhibition will be disqualified from exhibiting all his/her paintings in the current international exhibition and the following two international exhibitions.

  • Any artist who sells an exhibited artwork without going through the Balloon Museum will be disqualified from exhibiting all his/her paintings in the current exhibition.

Terms of Artwork Sale
  • All artwork must be available for hanging and sale at the Balloon Museum for the entire duration of the show.

  • The Balloon Museum will handle all gallery sales and collect all associated payments from customers, including all applicable New Mexico gross receipts taxes (NMGRT). Customers/collectors will pay all packing and shipping charges, insurance costs, and other handling expenses incurred and set by the Balloon Museum Shoppe for the sale, shipping, and delivery of artwork purchased by them.

  • The Balloon Museum Foundation will send payment to the artist for artwork sold at 50% of the sale price within 30 days of the close of the exhibition.

Shipping And Delivery of Artworks

Complete shipping and delivery information will be included with notification to accepted artists.

Artists will be responsible for the shipping and handling charges associated with the delivery and retrieval of unsold art. 

Terms of Artwork Sale

The Balloon Museum Foundation has the right to refuse or disqualify any work that fails to meet eligibility, entry, and exhibition requirements. All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. However, the Balloon Museum Foundation, its employees, and its volunteers are not responsible for any loss or damage of any artworks in the exhibition. The Balloon Museum will be responsible for the safekeeping and insurance coverage of all artworks in the exhibition while on gallery premises. Artists are responsible for insuring their work during transit. An artist’s entry and payment constitute acceptance of all conditions and terms in this prospectus.
